Event Notes

Why is this called the Pirate's Cove 5K Run and Walk?

The Pirates Cove 5km Run is named in honor and memory of the servicemen and women who ran the very first Pirates Cove 5km Run in 2008 at “Camp Slayer” in Baghdad, Iraq. The original race was intended to be a morale booster for the soldiers and other military and civilian personnel living on the former Republican Guards Army base. During the years prior to Operation Iraqi Freedom the Saddam Hussein Regime diverted water from the Tigris River to create a series of manmade reservoirs and waterways. This resulted in an oasis of ponds, lakes, and streams all over the “Camp Slayer” and the original race organizers decided that the area looked very much like a “Pirates Cove” and hence the name was born.

If you register, please check your spam/junk mailboxes for emails from Veterans Count and PledgeReg. ~Thank You!

Please park at The Nick: 10 Trotting Track Road, Wolfeboro, NH

(Please allow extra time to park and take the short walk to the NH Boat Museum across the street.)

We have two great courses for you to choose from. Both are along the beautiful Cotton Valley Rail Trail on Lake Wentworth!

Both routes are on a highly maintained and safely mapped out dirt trails along the old rail system.

The Advanced Course is a true 5K heading north, while the Recreational Course heads south, and is about 3.01 miles. The Recreational Course is a little shy of 3.1 miles for safety reasons. We do not want participants having to cross the main road.

Both courses start and end at the New Hampshire Boat Museum within a ¼ mile of Albee Beach in Wolfeboro. Post-race participants, friends, and family members may enjoy the beach, swim, or have a cook out if they desire or simply stay and enjoy the many shops and locales of Wolfeboro.

Event is rain or shine.
